Envisioning the future of art in Boulder

The Dairy Art Center is Boulder's home to to the performing and visual arts. The name comes from a milk-processing facility that used to occupy the property.

I’ve been a board member for a year now and with a new executive director in place, questions about the future are gaining traction. Is it possible to increase the importance of the arts in a beautiful place where outdoor activity dominates? In America’s happiest town–Don’t the arts generally flourish in rainy, urban places? Can the transition be made from the current donor base to the millennials without missing a step? What of all these new tech companies moving to town?

I’m leading the team responsible for imagining the organization's future. This is a work in progress full of exciting possibilities. One in particular, is to redefine contemporary creativity, utilizing the involvement and output of the ‘creative class’. The design, creative, scientific and tech communities are doing inspirational work individually here in Boulder. Synthesizing and directing a portion of their energy is easier said than done, but the result could be unique in the art world and another notch in Boulder's belt.
