Redrawing the Aging Curve

Home Instead is the world's leading provider of in-home elder care services, with more than 1000 offices in 17 countries. In working with them across strategic and activation initiatives, a big question emerged. When we study perceived quality of life over time, humans follow a predictable pattern–An ‘Aging Curve’ becomes apparent. Is it possible to influence and effectively, redraw this curve to improve the quality in our final years? I led the initiative to study patterns across the human lifespan, to understand and illustrate this curve, and to begin the conversation about how to go about altering the dreadful, slow decline.

There is a natural tendency for optimism to return just before retirement. A critical opportunity begins. Through planning and shared physical activity, anxiety is reduced. Re-engagement with younger generations elevates our self-worth. Resistance is strengthened, and dreams and ambition return, lifting us higher and perhaps taking us further down the road of life.

Affecting society in this manner would not be possible without global partners and governmental cooperation. Home Instead was in the unique position to lead the way.

This project has reinvigorated Home Instead, generating a number of long-term initiatives. Multiple service offerings have been implemented, partnerships have been secured and policy conversations continue to gain momentum.
